Indra focuses on supporting and strengthening heart-led practitioners and community leaders. We create experiences that foster community, connection, and a wider understanding of our purpose on this Earth. We come together in some of the most incredible locations in the world, cultivating an understanding, and appreciation for the land, people, and culture. We aim to support wellness practitioners to share the true essence of Yoga, inviting these practices to be more accessible to wider and more diverse circles. The Indra team is made up of deeply experienced facilitators sharing Yoga, Ayurveda, and Embodiment as a lifestyle, from a trauma-informed approach that excludes no one. We dive into African and Indian ancient studies while creating modern-day connections that inform our relationship to our breath, bodies, and daily actions. We invite you to immerse yourself in this diverse region of Portugal and nourish yourself with organic food grown in the gardens, swim in the bio-pool, dine by evening firelight, and experience the stars in an entirely new way.
We invite you to learn more about Monte De Orada.
Curriculum Focus of This Unique Training
Trauma Informed Training
Deepen your understanding of how trauma affects the brain and the nervous system. Learn from 20+ year experienced therapists about how trauma lives in the body and the healing potential available through embodiment practices and breath work. Participants will understand the connection of yoga to trauma prevention and overcome. Participants will explore their beliefs around e-motions and the energy and gift of each. Participants will be introduced to their internal resources that are impacted by e-motions. Participants will understand the full-body definition of “healing” and its collective counterparts
Chinese Medicine & Meridians
This is where we weave the philosophy together with anatomy and practices to create a sense of awakened understanding as a wellness practitioner. Apply the natural rhythms and subtle energies of the five elements to your life on and off the mat. Begin to learn about the nadis and main meridians, as a pathway for the five elements. Learn general movements that access the meridians, how the matrix of the 12 meridians of Chinese Medicine and five elements create and influence the “energetic effects” of your practices. Learn and apply safe acupressure points along the meridians in your practice and daily life as part of your self-care routine.
Social and Emotional Justice Responsibility
Participants will critically explore social identities and become aware of shared identities, connections, and future implications as yoga teachers. Participants will call upon seven generations while acknowledging the first nations/land they live upon. Participants will deepen their understanding of Landback and their role, ancestors, and descendants’ role in this. Yoga is Social Justice and we learn more about how to decolonize yoga, make yoga for ALL bodies, dismantle racism, identify cultural appropriation and support each other through the necessary work we have a responsibility to do as a community
Art of Asana as Philosophy
An exploration into the Art of Asana through the African and Indian lineage practices, weaving in many different influences. Take a deep dive into Asana with curiosity, exploring different techniques and variations for all bodies and skill levels. The intention is to empower you as a teacher to allow students to find their way into and out of postures through the guidance of breath, discernment (Viveka), and intuition (Vichara). We will question and examine the essence and purpose of more advanced methods and look at variations in a skillful and informed way.
Community Leadership
Our ability to thrive creatively depends on the generosity we offer each other through sharing of knowledge and skills, resources and strategies. Immersion into the creative process is woven throughout the training. Within this safe and uplifting community we will explore how to deepen and share your personal creative voice through art, writing, music, dance, poetry and other forms of free expression.
Ayurvedic Lifestyle and Nutrition
Ayurveda is called the mother of all healing. It is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science and sister science to Yoga. Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance. Over the course of the training, you will gain a deep understanding of Ayurveda as a lifestyle as well as techniques to take home with you to cultivate and share in your personal and professional practice.
Pranayama and Meditation
When the breath achieves the qualities of prolonged, deep, even and subtle, it is the state of Pranayama. Gain an in-depth understanding of the theory, practice, and teaching of pranayama and various forms of meditation. Through intermediate and advanced instruction, participants learn how to create a variety of pranayama sequences for specific needs. Accompanying the regular practice of pranayama are daily meditation practices exploring a variety of mindfulness techniques.
Environmental Responsibility
Our goal at Indra Yoga Institute is to increase our awareness on all levels. At Indra, we dedicate time and resources to finding solutions to the environmental challenges facing us now and in the future. More science and more technology cannot get us out of our present ecologic crisis. A global awakening must take place to shift the current conscience. Through literature, poetry, dialogue, and practice, we uncover the power of yoga to connect all beings and bring about global change.
